A century old building was renovated to accommodate the taste of its new owners. However the cultural value of the building kept it from being razed down. Careful placement of supports were deemed necessary to strengthen the building while considerably changing its structure. For this purpose columns were used both as an artistic relief for elevation while also acting as real support beams for the building. The second floor underwent a significant overhaul characterized by the use of industrial materials – especially steel, glass, wood and concrete deprived of ornamentation and assembled so as to form simple geometrical volumes, freely laid out in space. The large entrances and spacious halls give an impression of the colonial era, reminiscent of the buildings provenance, and brings a subliminal regal touch to the building.
